Athena Kathem
Athena is currently studying (BA) Editorial and Advertising Photography at the University of Gloucestershire. Her editing techniques add to her work a distinctive quality that can both be seen as playful or ghostlike. Athena’s photography deals with her artistic nature and features both indoors and outdoors confessions as well as self portraits.

Athena Kathem's series of photographs illustrate a quote from English writer Neil Gaiman. Her pictures reflect the inspirational atmosphere of the text. Each photograph represents each part of the quote in a series of different colours and landscapes. Their common element is the shadow, which brings a touch of ambiguity, representing at the same time the vulnerability and limitation of humanity in enjoying the simplest things in life. The text is seen as translating the meaning of each picture and giving to it belonging within the group. Athena's colourful photographs attempt to demonstrate Gaiman's quote in a way that brings hope even in the shadows of our character that bring us down in life.
